Human rights and fundamental freedoms are the birthright of all human beings; their protection and promotion is the first responsibility of Governments.

The Horrific Practice of Human Trafficking!

The UAE was one of the 19 countries in the world that the
United States blacklisted last month for human trafficking.

The report condemns trafficking as a modern form of slavery leaves no land untouched.

Boys from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka have been trafficked to the United Arab Emirates to work as camel jockeys. Children as young as four have been trafficked and used as camel jockeys. Because they are too young to hold on they are tied on to the camels. To keep them light, they are deprived of food and water before a race.  They are kept in harsh conditions and treated brutality. Child camel jockeys have been seriously injured and some have died as a result of their treatment.

{A Pakistani boy who worked five years as a camel jockey, starting at age 4, remembers the race as noisy and dangerous, where more than 50 camels with screaming children strapped onto their backs would run. He personally saw about 20 children die, and more than a dozen injured every week. He recalls: "There was this one kid whose strap broke at the beginning of the race. His head was crushed between the legs of the running camel. Once the race has started it cannot stop.

Many of these under-aged riders have been left to die from the appalling injuries suffered on the desert race courses without any medical treatment. The camels are valuable assets worth millions of dollars, instead the children are viewed as cheap and expendable. With camel racing heavily patronized by the UAE's oil-rich rulers, who have least respect in the legislature, thousands of small children from Indian sub continent face a bleak and dangerous future.

Women migrated from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, India and Eastern Europe have reported being lured with fraudulent promises of lucrative opportunities, legitimate jobs and then forced into sexual exploitation.

Women who dared to resist encountered harsh punishment from their employers, including physical assault. Their status as "illegal migrants" made the women particularly vulnerable to attacks by customers and traffickers alike.

"Prostitutes" are either detained or arrested and prosecuted and then deported without regard to whether they are victims of trafficking.
